The first thing to do is to know the mechanics of a chainsaw and how to start it.
If the user manual is still available, it is advisable for you to peruse through it.
If you are a beginner or never use a chainsaw before, I suggest you manage someone to supervise you for the first time.
You may get injured or the tool may be damaged if you have no prior idea of how to ignite the tool.
More so, it's not all about starting it, but starting it the right way.
Simply adhere to the following steps to start your chainsaw
Step one: Position the Chainsaw on a flat surface
The first action to take is to place the chainsaw on the ground. Ensure that the ground is plain. You can place the chainsaw on a plank before placing the plank on the flat surface. More so, you should check the tool and remove the bar cover.
Step two: Push forward the chain brake
Safety is very important when handling technical jobs such as this. You should stop the chain from rotating on the bar by activating the chain brake. Activation of the chain break is very easy. Simply check the top handle and push the chain forward.
Step three: Make use of the smart start function
Check the chainsaw carefully for the smart start decompression valve. Some models of chainsaws are embedded with the smart start decompression control valve.
A typical example is the Husqvarna chainsaw. In this case, simply use your finger to push the valve to aid in the starting of the chainsaw.
Step four: Press the primer bulb
The primer bulb is otherwise known as the fuel pump. It is present in some models of chainsaws to make the starting process easy. Go ahead and press the fuel pump button for about 5 to 8 times. While doing so, you should observe the visibility of the fuel.
Step five: Ignite the chainsaw by pulling the rope
First, locate the starter rope. Ensure that the chainsaw is well balanced on the flat surface.
For safety, please ensure that the cutting end of the chainsaw is facing up and not in contact with the ground.
Use one of your hands to hold the top of the chainsaw firmly to secure it to the flat surface. Your legs should be placed at the rear of the chainsaw engine. The pulling should be done by carrying out smooth and quick motions.
Be ready to pull the rope for a plethora of times. Remember, it needs time to ignite.
Step Six: Adjust the master lever and the throttle
While pulling the rope, ensure that you have adjusted the throttle halfway. Keep the throttle at halfway until the chainsaw is running fully. Introduce more acceleration to add more verve to the engine. If It's not been used for some time, so it is likely for the chainsaw to start then dies off again.
In a situation like this, you should quickly open the choke by moving the master lever. After a successful ignition, the engine would run successfully. You can then touch the throttle to reset it to its normal position. The master control will also reset.
