I'm looking to buy a chainsaw for cutting ice, I've seen some conflicting information about whether or not cutting ice dulls a chainsaw.

Answer depends on how you define dulling. Cutting ice does not dull a chainsaw, but it will cause carbide tips on the chain to wear down. Carbide tip will get worn out quickly when cutting ice. It is a good practice to sharpen your chain before cutting ice. When a chain is sharpened, a new, fresh carbide tip is formed. Since there is a fresh carbide tip, chain will cut ice better and last longer.
